WASHINGTON – Authorities at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda have given the all-clear after a building was evacuated due to a bomb threat.
Building 19, a medical outpatient facility, was evacuated Wednesday morning after the threat was called in.
WRNMC spokesman Joe Macri said someone called the facility at about 8:50 a.m. and stated that a bomb “had been set to go off at 10 a.m.”
At that point, WRNMC issued a “Code Black” via the campus notification system, which means a suspicious package has been found or a bomb threat has been made.
Macri says Building 19, which is also known as “The Americas Building” with a capacity to hold 2,800 people, was immediately evacuated, though authorities still allowed traffic onto the center’s grounds.
Emergency officials and bomb detection dogs swept swept the building for explosives. None were found.
No other buildings were affected. Macri says the threat is being investigated by the WRNMC Police.
